We started with soft, lightweight weathered leather worthy of a great bomber jacket, and heavy washed twill, then built in a heap of thoughtful details: two exterior pockets with zip closures; two large main pockets (one with padding for laptop); slots for pens and gizmos; padded shoulder strap and carrying handle; canvas back.
