Recorded in the late-1960`s.
This extensive double CD set collects 48 early-1970s Bob Marley and the Wailers tracks, recorded around 1971-72 by the legendary Jamaican producer Lee Perry. Perry made a huge difference to the band`s sound, replacing the polite ska rhythms of the `60s with upfront rhythm guitar and bass and Carlton Barrett`s exemplary one-drop reggae drumming, and bringing Marley`s increasingly confident vocals to the fore. The difference is notable, particularly on "Duppy Conqueror," later rerecorded for 1973`s BURNIN`, and "Lively Up Yourself," later redone for 1975`s NATTY DREAD. Peter Tosh also puts in some authoritative vocal performances on "Soon Come" and the sufferers` anthem "400 Years," while early versions of "Trench Town Rock," "Kaya," and "Small Axe" provide plenty of material for Marley musical archaeologists.Track Listing: •DISC 1
